I was concerned that the Corrosion Block would migrate to the back of the Screen and ruin it. Plus, I slather Dielectric grease, where I can. Now I spray in "Corrosion Block", to coat the boards and wiring. If you don't close it properly, like I did when I was in a hurry the O-ring is useless. Everytime you open it, you are taking a chance of getting salt inside. The waterproffness of hand held electronics is all based on the case and the o-ring around the battery compartment. Next year I will have tissue in the same container as the batteries to wipe my hands off. What I did not take into consderation was my hands were wet and salty. To keep mositure from getting to all of the batteries. I had vaccum packed small groups of batteries together. I would suggest to increase the water proofness. Probably when you are tired, things are dark and there are shallows nearby.

At that time, Garmin will retire the Cloud Storage option. Next month, Garmin is releasing new versions of HomePort™ and BaseCamp™ that provide improved data security. (Note: Garmin Homeport is Garmin's Marine Planning Software) To me, removing those items will be product improvement. We all use Basecamp a little differently. Personally, I will not miss a single one of the "features" csewell mentioned in his post. If they feel it is warranted they may publish a release date and at least a little info about what is behind the curtain. If they're still developing features for whatever they plan to release they obviously won't discuss them. As I recall, Garmin gave users plenty of warning when they released Basecamp and they continued to support Mapsource for a very long time after that release.īut it raised my concern enough to write my own email to Garmin Product Support and suggest they engage in at least a measure of information control. I started looking because another post on another site with the topic: I asked him point blank if this was a new product like Basecamp was to Mapsource and he said that was not his understanding. 3:25 PM – I JUST completed a live chat session with Garmin during which the Garmin rep told me the release in a couple of weeks is a version update.
